Ramming Cars
770. Cars. Yud Shevat.
Yud Shevat. The hour with the Rebbe has just ended, and I am standing by the Likkutei Sichos shelf in 770. Suddenly, a Bochur starts shouting for everyone to evacuate the building. Confused, people begin to run. I pass by a group of Bochurim, and they ask me where I’m headed. I tell them that a car just crashed into 770 and that we need to evacuate. They laugh in disbelief. Once outside, I see people milling around. A few minutes later, a Bochur shows me a video on his phone of the crash. I can't help but wonder how this happened. Why is there no security around 770? Why can't they manage things properly—security guards, police, bollards, and so on? Just look at every other normal Jewish institution in the world. B"H, nothing happened, but we could have avoided this altogether, especially since the driver had been at the Ohel before and left, probably because he saw the security. Or maybe we are mistaken, and this has nothing to do with hate crimes. Just like the guy himself said, he was trying to park and slipped on the ice. When was the last time you tried to find a parking space in Crown Heights?
